All seven of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States' full members and one associate member use the Eastern Caribbean dollar as their official currency. It was introduced in 1965 as the replacement for the British West Indies dollar. To distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies, it is typically abbreviated with the dollar symbol $ or, alternatively, EC$. There are 100 cents in an EC$. Since July 7th, 1976, it has been fixed to the US dollar at a rate of US$1 = EC$2.70.
