Sao Tome and Principe uses the dobra as its official currency. Its units are 100 centimos, denoted by the abbreviation Db. In 1977, the escudo at par was replaced with the first dobra. Due to prior inflation, the dobra was redenominated at a rate of 1000 to 1 on January 1st, 2018, and was assigned the new ISO 4217 currency code STN. In 2009, Sao Tome and Principe agreed to a deal with Portugal that connected the dobra to the euro. The new dobra is pegged to the euro at EU1 = 24.5 STN / nDb because the exchange rate was set at 1 EUR = 24,500 STD on January 1, 2010. The word "doubloon" is derived from the Portuguese word "dobra."
