The currency of Lebanon is the pound or lira. It used to be divided into 100 piastres, but this practice was abandoned because to excessive inflation during the Lebanese Civil War. When referring to the currency, the plural form of the lira is either lirat or invariant, whereas the qirsh had four different forms: the dual qirshan with the number 2, the plural qurush with the numbers 3–10, the accusative singular qirshan with the numbers 11–99, and the genitive singular qirshi with multiples of 100. The plural form is based on the number. The subdivision's Arabic name before World War II was Grsh. The coins and banknotes of Lebanon are all bilingual in Arabic and French. The currency rate has been set at LL 1,507.50 per US dollar since December 1997. The 2020 economic crisis in Lebanon has made it difficult to convert currency at this rate, and a black market for foreign exchange has emerged with substantially higher exchange rates.
