Iran's national currency is the rial. The currency has no official symbol, although the two Iranian standards ISIRI 2900 and ISIRI 3342 provide a character code that can be used instead, while the Iranian standard ISIRI 820 designated a symbol for use on typewriters. A compatibility character designated as U+FDFC RIAL SIGN exists in the Unicode Standard. The Iranian parliament has approved a plan to eliminate four zeros from the rial by substituting the toman, which is the name of a former Iranian currency, for the rial at a rate of one toman for every 10,000 rials. It's anticipated that this transition will happen between 2020 and 2022.
